Turn Back The Clock 10 Years
For starters, I want to thank you for taking the time for stopping by to learn a little more about Huskey Strength. I truly appreciate it!
A little bit about me, since you are reading an “About” section, after all (duh). Especially since I’m barely out of my 20’s, yet this business focuses on helping folks who are 40 years old and above.
Why is it I can understand the unique needs of an age group I’m not a part of? How could I possibly understand the needs the issues they go through on a daily basis?
After all, I’m a fitness guy. I’m a former competitive athlete (still an athlete, just not so competitive). I’ve never been overweight in my life. Those may be worlds you have never been a part of.
So, I’m going to take you on a ride through my past to paint you a picture of how we got to this moment in time. Here we go….
***
Like a lot of other fitness professionals, I grew up as an athlete. Baseball was my original passion until high school rolled around and found out how much fun it is to have a human car accident multiple times a game with football.
Strength training and working out came with territory when playing football, so I didn’t have much of a choice whether or not I wanted to do it.
BUT, the habit of working out stuck with me even after my glory days of football were a thing of the past (it’s still fun to run into people, but, for some reason, no volunteers for it. Weird).
Working out and staying active stayed with me until the start of my sophomore year in college. I began to have abdominal pain day after day. As a college kid (i.e. I was a dumbass), I ignored the symptoms for weeks and assumed they’d pass.
Well, they did NOT pass. They persisted for months.
I came back on home to see my doctor. At the visit I scheduled another appointment to see a specialist. At that first appointment I weighed in around 190 pounds. Pretty much normal for me.
24 days later I came back home for the appointment with the specialist. At this appointment I weighed in at….wait for it…135 pounds…
That’s 50+ pounds for those who hate math.
Couldn’t ignore those pains any longer. A couple more months went before I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) at the ripe age of 20.
Despite my UC being a pain in the ass (literally), it made me realize what I should be doing with my life, so I have a disease which tears up my guts to thank for my career choice.
I now have the opportunity to help others prevent health issues like these from happening.
Your issue could be high blood pressure, diabetes, back pain or even a health issue arising for a family member or close friend.
I don’t know if my disease could have been prevented, but having the knowledge I now possess would have made the first few years of dealing with it more manageable.
I wouldn’t have had to take time away from friends and family because I was in pain. I would have been able to participate in more activities throughout college. Basically, I’d of been able to live life on my own terms of a disease’s.

Speaking of being able to live life on your own terms, that’s the biggest benefit the clients I work with receive.
A 62 year-old small business owner getting off all medications, having plenty of energy to successfully run his company and being able to play with his grandchildren instead of watching them from the sidelines.
A 38 year-old being able to fit into a pair of jeans she hasn’t worn in years.
A 45 year-old who with a knee injury – caused by another trainer – is able to run his roofing company with ZERO knee pain and go to dance classes with his wife.
I tell you all of this to give you an idea of why I do what I do, and to explain why Huskey Strength is designed the way it is.
I believe in customized plan for every single client who walks through our doors.
I deliberately stayed away from those large group classes with crazy circuits where the goals seems to be puking, taught by someone who has no business teaching someone how to eat a ham sandwich, let alone how to move better, feel better and get stronger.
Every program is designed for each and every person who walks through our doors; not for the masses or the Instagram crowd.
I wanted a place where folks aren’t intimidated to come to the gym. As an introvert who is dreads being in front of large crowds, I can relate to the anxiety of stepping into a crowded gym.
I wanted a place where you’re welcomed by and fist bumping with the 2-3 folks you train with.
I created a place where you’re a member of a small pack instead of a number in the crowd. So you know you’ll always have someone in your corner to help you through the crappy days.
In the end, that’s exactly what I created with Huskey Strength.
